When Roman's grandfather clock stops before nine, he shrinks into a tiny theatre hidden inside it. The final page of a play is missing, leaving the little dragon Milo stranded beside a bridgeless valley with a moon egg. Wings fail, and there are no materials for a bridge. By carefully studying the scenery, Roman discovers that the cliffs are really an open magic book. The clockwork audience closes its pages into a bridge, Milo finishes his journey, and nine joyful chimes ring out.
